Democratic National Convention to highlight GOP War on Women
Buzzfeed reports that “Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria will address the Democratic National Convention next month, according to a release… [she] has taken on a significant fundraising role for Obama, and has worked on Hispanic and women’s outreach for the campaign.”
Particularly in light of Rep. Todd Akin’s comments on rape this week, the Obama campaign has readied another push on women’s rights and women’s health, and is planning on using the convention to highlight the “War on Women.”

This billboard is going up today on a highway just outside Tampa, welcoming attendees of the RNC Convention. Ruth’s List Florida, a group that works to elect progressive Democratic women to office, funded the billboard.

“As we move toward the November 2012 reelection, most of us living around the world are keenly aware of how important this election will be. Democrats will be fighting to retain our majority in the Senate, picking up seats in the House and the reelecting President Obama.
This year this page will be populated with information regarding special elections across the country.
These pages will help voters around the globe to exercise their most basic of democratic ideals: the right and obligation to vote!

Join with Daily Kos and Democracy for America by signing our petition telling the House Democrats in ultra-safe districts who have stockpiled more than $63 million to start sending some of that money to progressive Democrats in swing districts. Please, click here to sign the petition.
Democrats have a good chance to retake the House of Representatives, with eight polls in the last month showing them either ahead or tied. Still, the current Democratic lead is tenuous because negative ads from Republican Super PACs will only increase as the election approaches.
Fortunately, there is a way to counter this coming onslaught of corporate cash. There are nearly 100 House Democrats in very safe districts who collectively have more than $63 million in their campaign bank accounts. If these Democrats started sending some of that money to campaigns in swing districts, they would provide the financial support needed to send John Boehner and the tea party packing.
We know pushing these Democrats can work, because we’ve done it before. Back in 2006, our grassroots pressure resulted in ultra-safe Democrats sending millions of dollars to battleground districts, thus playing an important role in Democrats retaking the House that year.
We can do it again in 2012, but we need to start now. Please, click here to tell ultra-safe House Democrats to stop hoarding cash and step up their support for progressive Democrats in swing districts.
Keep fighting,
Chris Bowers

How Romney’s pick of Ryan is a godsend to Pelosi and House Dems hoping to win back their majority: my first political post for Business Insider.
By picking Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney has managed something rare, for him: He’s made everyone feel good. Conservatives are thrilled, of course — they’ll have the “big choice” campaign they’ve been demanding from Romney. The Obama campaign is ecstatic — now they can more easily tie Romney to the unpopular Republican Congress and its determination (in last year’s debt ceiling fight and in the “Ryan Budget”) to force deep cuts to Medicare to balance the budget without raising taxes.
But don’t overlook the celebration at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, or DCCC, which faces an uphill struggle to convert dissatisfaction with House Republicans into a “wave” that could reverse their 2010 disaster and put Nancy Pelosi back in the Speaker’s chair… [read more]

House Democrats didn’t take long to begin tying Paul Ryan to Republicans they hope to unseat in November.
Less than two hours after the vice presidential announcement, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee was issuing a flurry of e-mail press releases aimed at various Republican incumbents.
One sample headline: “Congresswoman Buerkle Has New Running Mate: Republican Budget That Ends Medicare.”
The release referred to Representative Ann Marie Buerkle, who is fighting for re-election in New York and can expect a lot of incoming Democratic fire over the Ryan budget now that her colleague is at the top of the ticket.
“The Republican budget is now Congresswoman Buerkle’s running mate as she must defend the indefensible – more tax cuts for millionaires and higher health care bills for seniors on Medicare,” said Jess Ferguson, a D.C.C.C. spokesman.
